]]>The use of time is essential in any artistic practice. In this workshop, we will learn how to use time within the context of interactive art to create works with elements of tension, suspense and surprise. This workshop is meant to serve two-purposes: To explore interactive arts and the techniques used to manipulate time, including delay, repetition, duration, looping, and resetting. And, to learn about some of the technologies that serve as the foundation for interactive art. At the end of the workshop you will be able to start building your own tools and platforms.
We will be working with Arduino, an open-source hardware and software platform that enables artists to create works that interact with people, the environment, and other computers. We will learn basics electronics and programming skills so that you’ll be able to make works that sense and respond to the world and unfold over time.
Over the course of this six hour workshop, we will:

This workshop will be an introduction to Unity3d (a 3d game engine) for artists. Participants will learn the basics of creating digital spaces that can be exported as standalone apps, websites, or VR experiences. There will be an emphasis on creating handmade/handdrawn textures that will be scanned and used to wrap 3d models and terrains.
A portion of the class will focus on presenting students with techniques to get up and running, starting with the Unity3d interface and touching on some light scripting. The rest of in-class time will be used for the participants to work on projects with the instructor’s help troubleshooting.
Participants will finish the workshop having made a navigable 3d world made of hand drawn textures. This will be an excellent way to bring non-digital art into digital space, as well as an introduction to a powerful tool for artists with technology backgrounds.

Mappathon is a 3-day projection mapping marathon workshop, followed by an art installation exhibited and open to the public. Learn the latest projection mapping techniques and technologies and then collaborate to create a final advanced site-specific project.
Participants will learn the latest technology for mapping video projections onto physical surfaces, incorporating multiple surfaces and shapes and moving away from the traditional confines of the screen to sculptures and building facades. The goal of the workshop is to create several projection mapping installations with or without interactivity, where the participants create content for complex surfaces through collaboration. At the end of the workshop, participants will showcase their work to the public.
SCHEDULE
DAY 1: November 6th, 7PM – 10PM
DAY 2: November 7th, 12PM – 6PM
