WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 14TH, 6PM – 9PM

This crash course introduction to the GIF will go over Photoshop-based techniques for GIF creation including animating, masking, collaging, exporting, and best workflow practices. The course will also discuss presenting GIF work online and IRL as well as look at a brief history of GIFs and the works of contemporary GIF artists. Students will see what others have done with the medium, absorb new techniques, and then deploy them with facilitated lab time.

PREREQUISITES

  • Students should be familiar with Photoshop.
  • Recommended that students bring images, GIFs, and videos to work with.

INSTRUCTOR 

Faith Holland is an artist and curator whose practice focuses on gender and sexuality’s relationship to the Internet. She received her BA in Media Studies at Vassar College and her MFA in Photography, Video, and Related Media at the School of Visual Arts. Her work has been exhibited at Elga Wimmer (New York), Axiom Gallery (Boston), the Philips Collection (Washington, D.C.), Xpo Gallery (Paris), and File Festival (São Paulo). Her work has been written about in Artforum, The Sunday Times UK, Art F City, Hyperallergic, Animal New York, Artnet, The Creator’s Project, and Dazed Digital. She was a 2014 New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship Finalist in Digital/Electronic Art. She had her first solo show at Transfer Gallery in 2015.
